Vikings Win the Battle of the Conference Leaders for the Second Time
A dominant performance in the trenches proves the difference as Vienna hold off Rhein Fire

Final Score: Vienna Vikings at Rhein Fire – 28:16
Fire Strike First Through Paz
It was a fierce and physical game from the opening whistle, with both defenses setting the tone in the first quarter and neither offense finding much room to breathe. The first points of the game came not from either offense but from Rhein Fire defensive end Diego Paz, who stepped in front of a pass and returned the pick six to give the home side the lead. The crowd was electric, and for a moment it felt like Fire’s evening.
Vikings Take Control
Vienna responded with three offensive touchdowns and did not look back. Offensive coordinator Jordan Neuman deployed the full range of his toolkit, mixing rushing and passing plays to keep Rhein Fire’s defense guessing. The Vikings dominated the trenches throughout, averaging 6.4 yards per rush compared to Rhein Fire’s 3.9, a gap of nearly 150 rushing yards that told the story of where this game was won. Fire never got their ground game going, and without that dimension their offense became easier to manage.
Geiger Fumble Ends Fire’s Last Hope
Rhein Fire battled back and made it interesting late on, but a costly fumble from Kaylon Geiger with time running short extinguished any remaining hope of a comeback. That one turnover summed up the fine margins in a game where both third down conversion rates were poor, but the Vikings converted two of three fourth down attempts to keep their drives alive when it mattered most.
An Incredible Atmosphere
The Rhein Fire faithful gave everything to make life uncomfortable for the Vikings, creating a fierce atmosphere throughout the stadium. It was not enough to change the result, but it was exactly the kind of environment that makes this rivalry one of the best in the league.
What’s Next
The Vienna Vikings travel to face the still-winless Firenze Red Lions, while Rhein Fire head to Paris to take on the Lights.
