This is how the last two matchups between the Vikings and Panthers went down
The Panthers Wrocław and Vienna Vikings split their two regular-season meetings with a record of 1-1, creating one of the most intriguing storylines ahead of their next showdown. Vienna won the first encounter convincingly, but Wrocław turned the tables in August and handed the Vikings their only loss of the regular season.
Vikings dominate the first Panthers matchup
The first meeting came in Week 2 in Wrocław, where the Vikings secured a 42–23 victory. Vienna’s passing game was the decisive factor, with quarterback Ben Holmes completing 17 of 26 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns. Yannick Mayr was Holmes’ favourite target that week, catching six passes for 135 yards and two scores.
The Panthers also moved the ball effectively through the air. Jameson Wang completed 32 of 43 attempts for 356 yards and three touchdowns, while Michael Harley Jr. was outstanding with 11 receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns. But Vienna controlled the game after halftime, scoring 16 unanswered points in the second half to turn a competitive contest into a 19-point victory.
Panthers turn the tables in Vienna
When the teams met again in Week 12, the picture was completely different. Wrocław won 34–31 in Vienna, handing the Vikings their first and only defeat of the regular season. The Panthers trailed 28–20 at halftime but shut Vienna out in the third quarter before completing the comeback in the final period.
Wang again played a central role, throwing for 294 yards and four touchdowns on 28-of-46 passing. Michael Harley Jr. caught seven passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns, while Juan Flores-Calderon also scored twice through the air. The Panthers’ defense was led by Krzystof Wis with 12 tackles, while Noel Swancar recorded 13.
The Key – A different game plan from Wrocław?
Interestingly, the Vikings actually dominated the yardage battle, producing 500 total yards compared with Wrocław’s 294. Vienna rushed for an enormous 322 yards, led by Karri Pajarinen’s 143 yards and one touchdown. Yet 125 penalty yards proved to be costly, while the Panthers converted their opportunities well enough to escape with the win.
The two games therefore tell a clear story: Vienna has already shown it can control this matchup, but Wrocław has also proven it can beat the Vikings when the pressure is highest and the Vikings make mistakes. That makes their next meeting on Sunday at the Gold Bowl in Duisburg more intriguing than many fans might think.
