Top homegrowns of week 8

Week 8 delivered another set of standout performances from European talent across the league. From a tight end who carried his team down the field at the most crucial moment to a wide receiver who shone even in defeat, here is a look at the homegrown players who made their mark in week 8.

Laryea delivers when it matters most

Kevin Laryea had already been making his presence felt for the London Warriors this season, but Week 8 was his most complete performance yet. The tight end finished with six catches for 181 yards and a touchdown in what was a nerve-shredding 27:26 win over the Alpine Rams. None of his contributions were bigger than a 25-yard catch on a third down and 20 situation late in the game, a moment that kept the Warriors‘ winning drive alive when everything was on the line. In a game decided by a single point, Laryea’s ability to move the chains and stretch the field was the difference.

Agu ends it

On the other side of the ball, Jezreel Agu was just as important to the Warriors‘ victory. The defensive end was relentless all afternoon, putting constant pressure on Alpine Rams quarterback Seth Morgan alongside the rest of the London defensive line. Ten tackles and two sacks told the story of a player who was involved in almost every key defensive moment of the game. His second sack came in the final seconds to end any remaining hope the Rams had of pulling off a comeback. A performance already recognized by fans across the league, who voted him the week’s MVP.

Kaya lights up the game again

Kevin Kaya has made the London Warriors his favorite opponent. The French wide receiver was outstanding again despite his team falling just short, finishing with eight catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns in a performance that underlined just how talented he is and how central he has become to everything the Alpine Rams want to do offensively. A fumble was the one blemish on an otherwise exceptional afternoon. When Kaya is at his best, the Rams are a different team. The challenge now is making sure that version of Kaya shows up every week.

Schumm steps into the spotlight

Niklas Schumm has been quietly building his case as one of the better wide receivers in the league, and Week 8 was his loudest statement yet. The Berlin Thunder receiver was Jakeb Sullivan’s go-to target all afternoon against Firenze Red Lions, finishing with seven catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns. His ability to get open, make contested catches and convert in the end zone gave Thunder’s offense a spark they needed. It was the kind of performance that changes how opposing defenses will prepare for him going forward.

European talent raising the level

Four players, four different teams, and four performances that made a difference. Laryea and Agu won a thriller for London between them. Kaya showed there is real quality in the Rams even when results do not go their way. And Schumm announced himself as a genuine weapon in the Thunder offense. Week 9 cannot come soon enough
