London Warriors secure first AFLE victory in franchise history
The London Warriors are finally in the win column after beating the Firzene Red Lions with a final score of 51-26. After opening their inaugural American Football League Europe season with three straight losses, London delivered a statement performance in Week 4, scoring 51 points against the Firenze Red Lions and securing the first AFLE victory in franchise history.
More importantly, the breakthrough win was fueled by standout performances from several key playmakers who stood up for their team when it was in need!
Warriors quarterback leads offensive breakthrough
After difficult outings earlier in the season, London’s offense finally found its rhythm. The Warriors consistently moved the chains, finished drives in the red zone, and put constant pressure on a Firenze defense that struggled to find answers.
Quarterback Karé Lyles, one of the biggest offseason additions for the franchise, directed the attack with confidence and efficiency. Protected well by his offensive line, Lyles spread the ball around and allowed London to dictate the pace of the game from the opening quarter.
The result was a season-high 51 points and easily the most productive offensive performance in team history.
Playmakers step up for the English capital
The Warriors‘ skill-position players played a major role in the historic victory. Running back Andy Owusu, who already showed flashes earlier this season, again proved difficult to contain with his physical running style putting two scores on the board.
Meanwhile, big-play receiver Kevin Laryea continued to demonstrate why he is one of London’s most dangerous weapons in space after making impact plays throughout the season also adding a score on the board and producing just under 100 receiving yards.
What stood out most was London’s balance. Rather than relying on one player, the Warriors received contributions from across the offense, keeping Firenze off balance and creating scoring opportunities on nearly every possession.
Red Lions still searching for first win
For Firenze, the loss continues a frustrating start to the AFLE season. The Red Lions now sit at 0-3 and remain in search of their first victory.
Defensively, they struggled to slow London’s tempo, while the offense could not generate enough sustained drives to keep pace once the Warriors built momentum. After allowing 45 points to Berlin in Week 3, Firenze again found itself overwhelmed by a high-powered opponent.
Historic day for the London Warriors
Every new franchise remembers its first win, and the London Warriors earned theirs in unforgettable fashion.Scoring 50 points, dominating on offense, and finally turning potential into results, the Warriors improved to 1-3 and gave their supporters a milestone moment in AFLE history. If Sunday’s performance is any indication, London may finally be finding its identity as the season moves forward.
