A New Chapter for Florence: Guelfi Firenze Join the American Football League Europe
With 26 years of experience and a large football community behind them, the club from Florence becomes the AFLE’s newest team for the 2027 season.
The American Football League Europe (AFLE) welcomes Guelfi Firenze as a new team. Starting with the 2027 season, the club from Florence will compete in the AFLE, bringing 26 years of experience and a large, passionate football community to the league. Guelfi Firenze will continue to play in the Italian Football League (IFL) and will compete in the AFLE following the conclusion of the IFL season.
The AFLE would like to thank the Firenze Red Lions, and especially owner Bart Iaccarino, for the 2026 season. With Guelfi Firenze, the league remains present in Italy, a market of great importance to the AFLE, and looks forward to continuing that path in 2027.
Jim Tomsula, CEO of the American Football League Europe, said: “We at the AFLE have adopted a structured approach to growth, and Guelfi fit into that structure. Their organization is rooted in stability, football development, integrity and people. That is exactly what we are looking for in the AFLE. This is very exciting. I ask all of our fans to join me in welcoming Guelfi into the AFLE family.”
Andreas Nommensen, AFLE Commissioner, added: “Italy is an important football country, and Florence is a city with real passion for the game. Over 26 years, Guelfi Firenze have built something you cannot buy: experience, a strong community and people who live football. I am happy that we were on the same page from our very first meeting. We are proud to have them with us. Together, we want to keep growing football in Italy.”
Edoardo Cammi, General Manager of Guelfi Firenze, said: “Joining the AFLE represents an exciting new challenge for our entire organization. We’ve worked hard over the years to build something special in Florence, and bringing Guelfi football to the professional stage is a natural next step in our journey. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but we’re far from satisfied. We’re here to compete, to keep growing, and to earn our place among Europe’s best. And we’ll do it the Guelfi way: through hard work, consistency and commitment to our values.”
Guelfi Firenze will play their first AFLE season in 2027.
