Why the Alpine Rams could succeed in 2027
The Alpine Rams may have finished the AFLE regular season with just three wins out of twelve games, but the final weeks offered plenty of reasons for optimism. After a difficult campaign, the Rams found their rhythm late in the season and closed 2026 with two memorable victories that showed the team’s potential.
Alpine Rams find momentum late in the season
The Rams’ second win of the season came in spectacular fashion against the Firenze Red Lions. In a 45–42 shootout, Alpine produced almost 1,200 combined yards with Firenze, while quarterback Hank Bachmeier delivered a record-breaking performance.
Bachmeier threw for more than 550 yards and five touchdowns, completing around 80 percent of his passes and recording a perfect 158.3 passer rating. His performance broke the previous AFLE single-game passing record and immediately gave the Rams offense another dimension.
That momentum carried into the final game of the regular season against the Paris Lights. With both teams already out of playoff contention, there was nothing at stake in terms of the postseason, but neither side played as if the season was already over.
WR Kevin Kaya emerges as an AFLE star
Wide receiver Kevin Kaya has been one of the biggest reasons for Alpine’s encouraging finish. Earlier in the season, he proved himself to be one of the AFLE’s most explosive receivers with eight catches for 206 yards and four touchdowns against Firenze, including a 78-yard reception.
Kaya finished that stretch with 55 receptions for 880 yards and 10 touchdowns over 10 games, establishing himself as a key weapon in the Rams’ passing attack. Against Paris, he once again delivered when it mattered most.
Overtime thriller caps off Rams’ season
Paris raced into a 28–14 lead, but Alpine refused to fold. A pick-six helped start the comeback before Kaya caught the late touchdown that tied the game at 28–28 with less than two minutes remaining. In overtime, he caught the decisive 25-yard touchdown from Bachmeier to complete the comeback.
The Rams finish 3–9, but their final performances leave a different impression than the record alone suggests. If Alpine can carry that late-season energy into 2027, the Rams could enter their second AFLE season as a much more dangerous opponent.
