Week 7 Preview – Rivalry week!

The American Football League Europe (AFLE) reaches an interesting point in its inaugural season this weekend. All three Week 7 matchups are a rematch from earlier in the year, giving all six teams an immediate opportunity to prove they have learned from their first meeting. With playoff positioning becoming increasingly important, adjustments based on their previous game against their rival will become crucial. But what do the teams really have to focus on in their Week 7 matchups?

Paris Lights vs. Panthers Wroclaw: Can Paris finish the comeback this time?

When these teams met in Week 3, Panthers Wroclaw raced out to a commanding 22-0 lead before surviving a spirited Paris comeback to secure a 22-14 victory. Quarterback Jameson Wang was the difference, accounting for three rushing and passing touchdowns while also leading the Panthers with 103 rushing yards. Wroclaw dominated the ground game with 177 rushing yards and controlled possession for more than 34 minutes, forcing Paris to play from behind almost immediately.

This rematch offers a very different challenge. Paris has continued to grow offensively as the season has progressed and has shown it can recover from difficult situations. However, the Lights cannot afford another slow start against one of the league’s most balanced teams. Stopping Wang’s dual-threat ability will be the top priority, while the Panthers must avoid becoming complacent after allowing Paris back into the first contest. If Wroclaw establishes the run early again, they will be difficult to stop. But if Paris keeps the game close into the fourth quarter, the momentum could shift in their favor.

Firenze Red Lions vs. London Warriors: Finding answers after a one-sided score

The Firenze Red Lions welcome the London Warriors looking for revenge after their first meeting ended in a high-scoring 51-26 victory for London in Week 4. The Warriors put together their most complete performance of the season, consistently moving the ball on offense and capitalizing on Firenze’s defensive mistakes to secure their first win in franchise history.

This time, the Red Lions have home-field advantage, but the biggest challenge remains limiting explosive plays. Firenze has struggled defensively throughout the season, allowing 51 points to London and 48 points to Panthers Wroclaw in consecutive home games. If the Italian side wants to flip the script, it must improve its tackling, create more pressure on the quarterback and sustain longer offensive drives to keep its defense off the field.

For the Warriors, the formula is much simpler. London has already shown it can score in bunches against Firenze and enters the rematch as the favorite despite its 1-4 record. Another efficient offensive performance combined with disciplined defense could secure a season sweep. However, playing in Florence presents a different challenge, and the Red Lions will be highly motivated to erase the memory of the first meeting in front of their home crowd. If Firenze can keep the game close into the second half, this rematch has the potential to be far more competitive than the Week 4 encounter.

Vienna Vikings vs. Berlin Thunder: A test of consistency

The final rematch of Week 7 brings together two teams with very different objectives. Vienna has consistently looked like one of the strongest squads in the AFLE, combining offensive firepower with a disciplined defense. Berlin Thunder, meanwhile, has shown flashes of its potential but has struggled to sustain momentum against the league’s elite opponents.

For the Thunder, the key will be protecting the quarterback and creating more explosive plays downfield than they managed in the first meeting. Berlin has demonstrated resilience throughout the season but now needs cleaner execution in critical moments with quarterback Jakeb Sullivan leading the way.

The Vikings, on the other hand, should focus on doing what has brought them success all year: controlling the line of scrimmage, avoiding turnovers and forcing opponents into obvious passing situations. If Vienna dictates the tempo again, it will be difficult for Berlin to reverse the outcome. But with both teams already familiar with each other’s tendencies, this rematch promises a far more tactical battle than the first encounter.
