Three-Headed Monster: Wroclaw’s Backfield Keeps Rolling

Four wins, one mission: the 4-1 Wroclaw Panthers are chasing the unbeaten Vienna Vikings (5-0). Wroclaw Panthers running back Dawid Brzozowski on unfinished business, teamwork in the backfield, and his offensive line.

Wroclaw Beats Their Opponents Any Way It Chooses

What the Wroclaw Panthers have shown week after week is their ability to dictate the game on their own terms, whether through the air or on the ground. In Week 4 against the Berlin Thunder, it took just 13 receptions for the Panthers to rack up 216 yards and five receiving touchdowns, a level of efficiency through the air that few teams in the league can match. Two weeks later against the Firenze Red Lions, Wroclaw flipped the script entirely, leaning on a heavy ground attack: 44 rushing attempts produced 294 yards and five rushing touchdowns. Two completely different game plans, two dominant results, and proof that this offense can beat you any way it chooses.

The franchise’s best start in team history has fans talking, but running back Dawid Brzozowski isn’t getting ahead of himself. Asked whether the impressive record feels as solid from the inside as it looks from the outside, or whether something in the locker room still feels unfinished, he didn’t hesitate: „The record looks promising, but of course we still have a lot to improve. Our goal is the championship, so we keep working hard to eliminate the mistakes that can cost us games. We have a very talented team, and everyone knows we are capable of much more.“

Brzozowski was introduced to American football by his brother and his coach in his hometown Bielawa. He started when he was 17 with the Bielawa Owls junior team and was part of the team in 2018-2019, when the regularly met the Panthers Wroclaw in the finals, before he joined the Panthers Wroclaw in 2022.

Since then, Brzozowski has felt completely at home with the Panthers, which is why re-signing for the 2026 season was never really a question. „From the beginning I felt this was a place where I could develop and compete for something truly big. The Wroclaw Panthers are a top organization in Europe that provides players with everything they need and allows them to focus entirely on football. We have a team with the potential to achieve something special, and I wanted to continue building it with the guys.“

For the Panthers it’s all about managing the workload

The running back has established himself as one of the Panthers‘ key performers, even though he rarely shoulders the load by himself. That’s because much of that talent lives at running back as a whole, where Panthers very own three-headed monster, Dawid Brzozowski, Kamil Kotlarz, and Bartosz Woch, is running roughshod over the league. In the win over Firenze, Woch piled up 120 yards, Kotlarz added 87, and Brzozowski chipped in 58 yards and two touchdowns, adding up to a combined 265 rushing yards from a single backfield in one game. Asked how the trio makes it work on the field, and whether the workload is managed deliberately or simply finds its own rhythm, Brzozowski credited the coaching staff: „The coaches manage our workload well. I believe we have a strong running back group, and we can afford to rotate, especially in games like the one in Florence, especially given the weather conditions. The season is long, we still have seven regular-season games left, and we want everyone to stay healthy and ready to fight for every yard.“

The best line he’s ever run behind

The job is also made easier by an offensive line stacked with four import players. Asked how much a line of that caliber changes what a running back can do, and whether he’s ever run behind an offensive line of this level before, Brzozowski was quick to clarify: „It’s true that we have four imported offensive linemen, although usually only three are on the field at the same time. This is probably the best group of linemen I’ve had the chance to play with. I saw how they prepared during the preseason under Coach Tomlin, and I knew they would be able to dominate the line of scrimmage. I definitely have more time to make decisions, and the running lanes are wider. Our offensive line rarely loses 1-on-1 matchups, so I don’t have to improvise as often. I also see a big difference in pass protection, I rarely need to help the lineman because they handle it so well.

Coming Saturday, the Wroclaw Panthers face the Paris Lights in a rematch. When these teams met in Week 3, Panthers Wroclaw raced out to a commanding 22-0 lead before surviving a spirited Paris comeback to secure a 22-14 victory. Quarterback Jameson Wang was the difference, accounting for three rushing and passing touchdowns while also leading the Panthers with 103 rushing yards.

In the interview, Brzozowski had nothing but praise for his signal-caller, the only starting quarterback in the league who has yet to throw an interception through five games. „Jameson is an elite quarterback and does a great job leading our offense. We both know our responsibilities on the field and we have great chemistry in the backfield. He makes smart and intentional decisions, which is why I have complete trust in him. The fact that he hasn’t thrown an interception yet only strengthens that trust. We have a very balanced offense, and everyone is capable of making big plays, so the decision between running or passing depends on the opposing defense’s alignment and the situation on the field.“

So for the Panthers, this Saturday just about winning, it’s about finishing what they started.
