The Warsaw Eagles are ready for Europe and their history proves it
The American Football League Europe has confirmed its ninth franchise for the 2027 season. The Warsaw Eagles, Poland’s oldest and most decorated American football club, are coming to the AFLE, and for anyone who knows their story, this moment has been a long time coming.

Where it all began
The Warsaw Eagles were founded in 1999 by four school friends in Warsaw, and from the very beginning they were not just a football club. They helped build the sport in Poland from the ground up. In 2004, the club co-founded the Polish American Football Association, laying the institutional foundation for organized football across the entire country. Their first competitive game, played on 17 December 2004, ended 88-7. Polish American football had arrived, and the Eagles were at the centre of it.
A club that wins
What followed over the next two decades was a record of sustained success that few clubs anywhere in Europe can match. Six Polish Bowl titles, in 2006, 2008, 2018, 2024, 2025 and 2026, including three consecutive championships. In 2026 they went through the entire regular season unbeaten and won the Polish Bowl with a 58-40 victory, capping a perfect domestic campaign. Owner Paul Kuśmierz has built an organization with senior, junior and development squads, creating one of the largest and most complete football programs in the country.
Tested at European level
The Eagles have not just dominated domestically. They have tested themselves in European club competition, beating established sides along the way and reaching the later rounds of continental tournaments in both 2025 and 2026. Those experiences showed that Warsaw can compete beyond their own borders, and they also underlined what the next logical step had to be.
AFLE Commissioner Andreas Nommensen put it directly: “The Warsaw Eagles are exactly the kind of team we set out to bring into this league. A threepeat as Polish Bowl champions says everything about what this club is capable of, and the next logical step for them is to prove themselves at the European level.”
Why the AFLE makes sense
For a club that has won everything there is to win in Poland, the AFLE represents the only remaining challenge that matches their ambition. Three consecutive national titles is a statement of total domestic dominance. The question now is what that level of organization, infrastructure and winning culture can produce on a bigger stage.
Poland already has a presence in the AFLE through Panthers Wroclaw, who reached the inaugural Gold Bowl and showed the entire league what Polish homegrown talent and mentality can produce at the highest level. The Warsaw Eagles add to that story, bringing the oldest club in Polish football history, a passionate fanbase of over 25 years and a winning culture that has been built across three consecutive national championships.
Paul Kuśmierz said it himself: “We are not just entering a new league. We are bringing the spirit, toughness, and pride of Warsaw to a whole new stage.”
A new chapter for a historic club
The Eagles will compete in the AFLE under their existing name and branding, carrying everything they have built in Warsaw onto the European stage.
Six Polish Bowl titles. A quarter century of history. Three straight championships. The Warsaw Eagles have earned the right to fly at the highest level. In 2027, they will get their chance.
