Wang and Harley deliver when it matters most as Panthers survive a classic semifinal

Cool Down — Built to Recover. Code AFLE

Final Score: Panthers Wroclaw at Rhein Fire – 41:40

Game of the Year

If there was any doubt about what the AFLE inaugural season is capable of producing, this game erased it. Two elite offenses, two hard-fighting defenses, two two-possession comebacks and a finish that went down to the wire. Everything a football fan could want was on display in this semifinal.

Panthers Start Fast, Fire Claw Back

Wroclaw came flying out of the gate and built a 13-point lead after the first quarter. Rhein Fire, as they have done all season, refused to panic. By halftime they had cut the deficit to just six points, and the second half began with the momentum firmly on Fire’s side. Nineteen unanswered points gave them the lead and at that moment it looked like the Panthers‘ season was over.

Wang and Harley Respond

Then Jameson Wang took over. The Panthers quarterback was outstanding when his team needed him most, finishing the game with six total touchdowns. The real story though was Mike Harley Jr., who put up numbers that belonged in a video game. Twenty-one catches for over 230 receiving yards and two touchdowns on a night when he simply could not be stopped. Two incredible offensive drives from the Panthers flipped the game back in their favour, and the defense did the rest, shutting Fire out in the closing stages to seal one of the most dramatic wins of the season.

Turnovers and Tight Third Downs

Wang threw two interceptions that could have decided the game against him, but the Panthers as a unit were too resilient to let them. Third down conversion reflected just how evenly matched these teams were, with Wroclaw converting 4 of 15 and Fire 3 of 12. Every drive felt like a battle.

What’s Next

Rhein Fire head into the offseason with plenty to be proud of after a superb season. For the Panthers Wroclaw, the Gold Bowl awaits against the Vienna Vikings. They beat the Vikings once this season and lost once. Round three promises to be something special.
