Nikolaus Terlitza returns to the Vienna Vikings after one year away

The Vienna Vikings welcome back an important defensive player from the 2024 season. Nikolaus Terlitza will return for the 2026 season after taking a one-year break from football. His comeback gives the Vikings more depth and quality at the linebacker position.

The 24-year-old made a strong impression during the 2024 season. With consistent performances and high energy on defense, Terlitza earned a nomination for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award and quickly became a valuable part of the unit.

Now, after a year away from the field, he is ready to continue his journey in Vienna.

A natural linebacker

Defensive Coordinator Daniel Auböck spoke highly of Terlitza and his development within the team.

“Some people are born to play linebacker. One of those people is Niki Terlitza. After joining us in 2024, Niki had to fight for playing time. He was new to the Vikings and our scheme. But as soon as he got his chance, he never let go of it.”

Auböck emphasized not only Terlitza’s physical skills but also his understanding of the game and his leadership qualities.

“He is a middle linebacker through and through. A great organizer and communicator in the huddle and before the ball is snapped. He turns into a heat-seeking missile as soon as the ball is in play. Niki’s nose for the ball is something that can’t be coached. Luckily he was born with it.”

Terlitza’s ability to read the game and react quickly made him a key figure in the middle of the defense during his last active season.

Ready to finish what he started

After stepping away from football for a year, Terlitza now returns with new motivation. According to Auböck, his comeback carries a clear purpose.

“After a year away from playing football, Niki rejoins the Vikings to finish what he started in 2024.”

With Nikolaus Terlitza back in the lineup, the Vienna Vikings strengthen the heart of their defense and add a motivated young leader who already proved his value. As the 2026 season approaches, his return could play an important role in the team’s defensive success.
