Jon Cole named AFLE Week 3 MVP after record-breaking performance

Berlin Thunder wide receiver Jon Cole has been named the AFLE Week 3 MVP after delivering one of the most impressive individual performances in the league’s short history. Cole rewrote the record books in Berlin’s 45-12 victory over the Firenze Red Lions, setting a new single game receiving yards record in the process.

A record-breaking afternoon

Cole finished the game with 12 catches for 230 receiving yards and four touchdowns, surpassing the previous single game receiving yards record and announcing himself as one of the most dangerous receivers in the entire league. His connection with quarterback Jakeb Sullivan was on full display throughout the afternoon, with the duo combining for big play after big play that the Firenze defense simply had no answer for.

The perfect partnership

Sullivan deserves enormous credit for his role in Cole’s record-breaking day. The Berlin quarterback threw for 431 passing yards and five touchdowns in a complete and commanding performance. But it was Cole who took the honors, turning Sullivan’s passes into something truly historic. The chemistry developing between the two is fast becoming one of the most exciting storylines in the AFLE.

A statement from Berlin

Cole’s MVP award comes at a significant moment for the Thunder, who have now won back-to-back games after a difficult Week 1. Berlin are starting to look like a team with genuine ambitions for the playoff race, and with a receiver capable of breaking records on any given afternoon, opposing defenses across the league will need to take notice.

The AFLE is only three game weeks into a 14-week regular season, yet the records being set already feel substantial. With 11 more weeks still to play, it remains to be seen whether Cole’s mark will stand the test of a full season or even beyond. But for now, 230 receiving yards in a single game is the number every receiver in this league will be chasing.
